SEPTEMBER 2024 Issue – 25 WITH Luna Maya

“A Versatile Actress, A Timeless Icon” Issue with Luna Maya

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Luna Maya

1.You've excelled in both acting and directing.
Which role do you find more creatively fulfilling and why?

I think I like both, because acting and directing have a different kind of fun when you're doing them.
But I like both. Front, and you're in the front camera,
and you're not on the front of camera.
I mean, it's a different kind of feeling that you can actually fulfil,
which is both are creatively fun, and I do love both
2.You've been open about the pressure to settle down.
How do you navigate societal expectations while following your own path?

At this moment, at this stage, I don't really care;
 it's not that I don't care, but I don't really.
I don't really think about it. But, yeah, if they ask me the question,
I will just answer. But I don't really think it's something that I'm worried about.
So I just go with the flow. If it's happened, it happened.
If it's not, yeah, just pray for the best and hope for the best.
3.Beyond acting, you're a successful entrepreneur.
What advice would you give to aspiring business owners in Indonesia?

Just try as much as you can.
Just do whatever you feel you can, and be good at what you're doing.
So, yeah, I think I'm not the right person to actually encourage all the interpreters because,
at the moment, I'm also trying my best to become an entrepreneur.
But, yeah, I mean, never, never give up, and do your best.
If you fail, try again.
4.As someone who is always impeccably dressed,
what are your personal style tips for looking confident and put-together?

If I have an event or anything that I need to dress up, I would dress up differently.
I would choose something that different every time.
I would do something more fun or something that I wouldn't even wear in my daily life.
But as a Luna Maya, I always try to be up-to-date and fashionable,
but also not to overly dress or become someone who I am not.
So yeah. I mean, it's always by the mood, and it's always something that came out.
Like, it's just popping up in your head, and then you just feel like, okay.
I want to wear something crazy, something playful, or something feminine.
So it's always something that I never actually plan.
Well, which is, I plan it, but I kind of look at what the current trend is,
what the situation is, and what kind of event I'm attending.
So I'm following, yeah, just kind of, you know?
So, yeah, if it's the way I dress really, really, you know, resonates with my character,
and then my total look becomes, you know, looking confident.
It's because of yeah. It depends on the mood, basically.
5.What hidden talents or hobbies do you have that might surprise your fans?

I love well, I love I kind of have my hidden talent; you have to see it yourself.
I cannot just say it because I don't know how to explain it.
But, yeah. I can make my tongue like a flower.
I don't know how to explain this, but yeah.
 Something really weird.
I love travelling, watching movies, and going to the cinema.
6.Indonesia has such a rich cultural heritage.
What aspects of Indonesian culture would you like to see showcased more on the global stage?

I think it's about our culture itself.
I mean, showcasing in a cinema world because
I think we have a lot of, like, local stories, local myths,
or even local legend heroes that are also very close to our culture.
I think that is something that we need to showcase more to the world through cinema.
7.You've worked with many talented actors.
Who has been your favorite scene partner and why?

I think all of them are my favorites.
I cannot just say one of them.
I don't think it's fair.
Why? Because so far, they've been a very good partner,
and I enjoyed, like, working with each of them,
and then I hope they feel the same way too towards me.

8.Social media can be a double-edged sword for celebrities.
How do you manage your online presence and stay positive?

I think it's more like I show or I share something that I really like or I love doing,
which is if you see all my Instagram, which is that all what I'm doing and what I love.
And, yeah, I just post whatever I feel like this is needed to share.
But when I'm not working, when I'm not doing anything, when I'm just at my office or staying home,
I rarely post anything because I kind of feel my life is a bit boring.
So, all I post is more towards my work, my office, my yeah.
What I attended, the event that I attended.
Yeah All those kinds of social things. But when I'm home alone or when I'm on my holiday,
I'm enjoying my time alone. I rarely post.
Yeah, I post a little bit, but not as much as when I'm working.

9.If you could travel anywhere in the world to film a movie,
where would it be and why?

I would love to go to Antarctica or somewhere hidden somewhere that I never can imagine going by myself.
Yeah. Antarctica, the North Pole, or somewhere.
 I don't know.
I cannot imagine people going there just to travel,
but because of your filming, you get to visit that area,
that island, or that country that people would never even think about.
Yeah. There's so many places like that, which is okay.
10.Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for the next chapter in your career?

I think what excites me most is how to always make something new,
create something new, or even stay in your position because now it's not about creating new things,
but it's about maintaining your career because it's been 20—almost 24—years
I've been in this industry since I first discovered it.
 So it's quite sometimes, but it's about maintaining how you can stay relevant;
how can you stay, like, in the public eyes and still look attractive to the younger generation?
I think that excites me because nowadays,
because of my horror movie or because of my latest movie,
I kind of get a younger generation, kind of, a fan base,
which is something that really excites me because you kind of touch a different generation.
So, yeah, I'm looking forward to still being in this industry and still becoming their,
you know, inspiration because, in the end, you want to inspire them,
and hopefully, I can inspire them.
So I think it's more something like that.
