“Beyond the Glamour” Issue with Prilly Latuconsina
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Prilly Latuconsina
.How do you manage to balance your acting career, business ventures, and personal life? What strategies do you employ to avoid burnout? The key to being productive is to be disciplined with your time. Every minute counts for me. I schedule my day by the hour to ensure I can accomplish everything, prioritizing tasks based on their importance. To prevent burnout, I make time for hobbies and activities that boost my mood. For instance, I fit in freediving training in the morning before work, or if that's not possible, I take time to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee during the day.
.If you could choose any role, historical or fictional, who would you like to portray and why? I don't say this often, but there is one person who always comes to my mind and who has inspired me as a woman. Her name is Gusti Raden Ayu Siti Noeroel Kamaril Ngasarati Kusumawardhami. I read her stories and was mesmerized by her independence and strength. She grew up at a time of great transition and change in the country and it was undoubtedly much harder being a woman in her era. Back then, the only option for a bright future was often to marry a wealthy or powerful man, but she refused to follow that path. Instead, she chose to improve her quality of life based on what she believed was right for her. She knew her worth and married a man who saw her value just as she did.
.With multiple successful businesses under your belt, what advice would you give to young entrepreneurs who are just starting out? My advice is to trust the process and remember that you won't achieve your goals without hard work. If you decide to start a business, you need to have a strong mentality because everything fluctuates in business. You may reach your target today, but tomorrow could be a different story. Therefore, you need to be able to adapt and always bounce back every time you feel down.
.How has your perspective on life and career evolved since you started in the entertainment industry? I've learned that forging my own path through experiences and challenges is important. I've realized that I can push myself to grow in unexpected ways, regardless of typical measures of beauty, height, gender, or age. Leading with heart, care, and compassion while pursuing ambitious goals beyond traditional expectations of success brings me great happiness and pride. Seeing my accomplishments shared and elevating others around me is another measure of success that brings me extra joy and motivates me to grow even more. I acknowledge that breaking into the entertainment industry is not easy, especially since it's unfamiliar territory for me and my family. I couldn't have achieved this without the support of my family, teams, and friends, along with the right mindset and a commitment to growth and learning.
.What is your process for developing a new character? Are there any specific techniques or inspirations you rely on? To be honest, I don't have specific techniques as I'm not a method actor. I simply focus on the script and have discussions with my director to analyze the characters together.
.What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the Indonesian entertainment industry today? I believe the main challenge is that sometimes we don't have equal opportunities. We are often judged based on the number of followers we have or our digital presence. Ironically, even those with a strong digital presence still need to work hard to prove that they deserve opportunities based on their talent, rather than just their social media numbers. In this digital era, it is important to improve our skills and personal branding on social media. However, this is not an easy task. It requires persistence and passion to succeed in this environment.
.How do you maintain a healthy relationship with your fans, and how do you balance their expectations with your personal life? I have always considered my fans to be like family to me, rather than just fans, because they are one of the most important support systems in my life. I make a point to spend time with them, talk to them, and take pictures with them, so that I can have a personal relationship with each of them. This makes it easier for me to understand and manage their expectations, as I encourage them to see me as just a woman with her own dreams, and that everyone has a different path to follow. I don't see their expectations as a burden; instead, I consider them as my motivation. 8.Is there a specific actor, director, or musician you'd love to collaborate with in the future? I have a lot of names in mind. As a producer and Chief Marketing Officer at my own production company, Sinemaku Pictures, I aim to collaborate with numerous actors and directors. In my view, in order to create a great movie, we need to work with multiple filmmakers to boost our creativity, and also provide opportunities for young actors and directors.
.As a public figure, you have a platform to address social issues. Are there any specific causes that you are passionate about and how are you involved in making a difference? Yes, absolutely! One of my objectives is to utilize my digital assets for a noble cause, with a focus on environmental issues. I have established a community called Generasi Peduli Bumi to educate individuals about the significance of preserving our planet and to encourage mindful environmental practices. I am involved in various initiatives, including recycling plastic waste to generate economic value. Additionally, I serve as an expert panelist at the BUMN Foundation, enabling me to advocate for and implement the project on a national scale.
.What message would you like to convey to young people about the importance of pursuing their dreams and making a positive impact on the world? Never doubt yourself or let other people label you. If you feel like you're not being given opportunities or privilege, create them for yourself. Everyone has the right to dream big and have ambition. Be passionate and persistent in pursuing your goals. If I can do it, so can you!
