EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH Charlotte Kirk
You’ve transitioned from acting to writing, producing, and directing.
What inspired this shift, and what are the unique challenges and rewards of wearing multiple creative hats?
Acting is my passion, and this is the craft that I love the most.
I decided to explore producing and writing so I could have more control over my work and my destiny.
It’s definitely rewarding to oversee a project I have done, and have as much overall input as possible,
but at the same time it makes it very challenging as I have a lot more responsibility for the overall creative project.
As a woman in the film industry, what steps have you taken to empower other women
and create more opportunities for female voices both on and off-screen?
I feel very inspired when I see other women in the film industry, and I absolutely love working with other creative, powerful women in my industry.
I always encourage myself to work with fellow female creators and to give them more opportunities to work on my projects.
Your work spans various genres, from horror to action-thrillers.
Do you have a personal favorite genre to work in, or does
the story itself drive your creative choices?
I absolutely love all genres of films. It really depends on the story and the characters. I don’t have a particular genre that I am into.
But so far, my path has taken me into the action and horror world, which is absolutely so much fun!!
When developing a new project, whether it’s writing a script or directing a film,
what is your creative process like? How do you balance collaboration with personal vision?
My motto is “always be in the art” because I feel life is art and art is life. I try and make sure I always keep the creative process very sacred and fun.
What are your aspirations for the future? Are there specific projects or themes you’re excited to explore in the years to come?
My aspirations are just to keep making great movie,s entertaining and moving the audience. Projecting great stories onto the big screen.
